Principal Product Engineer

Industrial autonomy

Shape HyBird’s architecture, ship useful industrial AI and build the engineering system that helps the whole team deliver.

Tell us your location and preferred working arrangement when applying. We’ll discuss the role’s location and team requirements with you.

Apply for this role

Build for the real world.

HyBird builds industrial spatial AI, bringing facility models, equipment, drawings and operational workflows into a shared context for people working at a desk and in the field. We’re building towards industrial autonomy, with dependable software as the foundation.

You will work across product decisions, architecture and implementation. The challenge is to turn industrial context into useful action while making the engineering team more effective. This is a hands-on role: you will write and review code, work with customers and take capabilities through to production.

You will work on problems grounded in operating facilities, with the opportunity to shape useful capabilities and see how people use them. Explore our research journey and our technology and customer work.

What you’ll own.

  • Shape the product and architecture with the founders and engineering team, within agreed product goals. Personally deliver capabilities that connect facility information to useful decisions and actions.
  • Build the AI-assisted engineering workflow: clear specifications, maintained project context, agent execution, independent tests, reviewed releases and recovery.
  • Set clear API, data and permission boundaries. Design for uncertain answers, human oversight, observability and safe recovery.
  • Help other engineers make good decisions and operate what the team builds. Turn production learning into reusable tools and better delivery practices.

What you’ll bring.

  • You have personally shipped a substantial software product and made consequential architecture decisions in a production stack.
  • You have built an AI-assisted development workflow used by other engineers, with maintained context and independent verification.
  • You can design APIs, data models and access boundaries, and operate cloud deployments, monitoring, rollback and recovery.
  • You have practical experience with agent/tool orchestration and evaluation, and can explain where generated code or model output failed.
  • You combine technical depth with product judgment: finding the valuable problem, choosing a dependable design and helping others deliver it.

Useful experience

Experience with industrial software, spatial data or enterprise integrations would help. Technical founders and proven Staff or Principal builders are welcome; your previous title is not the filter.

We value evidence of your own work, independent thought and clear communication. You can share private work through a walkthrough; a public portfolio is not required.

Your first 90 days.

Ship a focused AI workflow with real users and put an improved development workflow into team use. Establish a baseline, show customer value and delivery improvement, and leave a system another engineer can maintain and recover.

We’ll agree the initial scope and measures with you, based on customer priorities and the systems you inherit.
